The Write Well Award was established in 2014 by the Silver Pen Writers Association, an IRS recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization that encourages and fosters creative writing careers. The award is named after the “Write Well, Write to Sell” blog by Rick Taubold and Scott Gamboe, also a part of Silver Pen.
We seek to recognize outstanding short stories and flash fiction from both print and online journals and to give readers a way to experience stories that they might not otherwise be exposed to.
To ensure a variety of engaging stories, we are placing no limits on the types of pieces submitted either by subject or length except for an upper word count of about 10,000 words. Submissions are based on what the submitting magazines feel are their best for the publication year. Ultimately, we are looking for brilliant pieces that touch, amuse, intrigue, resonate—stories that take us places we have never been, that make us think, and that we cannot forget.
Authors of winning pieces will be contacted for permission to reprint their stories in the anthology. Participating presses of winning pieces will be notified when the winners have been chosen and have agreed to the reprint. A complete list of the winners will be posted on this site along with links to ordering the anthology.
The anthology will be published by Silver Pen (in print and e-book formats). There are no monetary payments for this award, but each winning author will receive a complimentary PDF version of the anthology. The net profits from the sale of the anthology will be used to support Silver Pen Writers.
